In organizing the activities of the Global Peace Festival Asia Pacific 2010 in Indonesia, the GPF Foundation partnered with various government agencies, civic organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), universities, and many regional institutions. Tens of thousands of young people attended the Global Peace Festival Asia pacific on October 17. They came from university campuses engaged in GPFF sponsored service projects and also from the youth wing of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Nahdlatul Ulama is the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia with a membership of 50-60 million. The NU operates an vast network of social and educational institutions spanning the nation, including 18,000 Islamic schools. When the interfaith conference was held in early 2010 with NU participation, it was the first time GPFF had collaborated so closely with a major Muslim organization. It marked an important step in GPFF’s quest to strengthen its interfaith component. At the October 15-18 Global Peace Leadership Conference sponsored jointly by NU and GPFF, Indonesia’s Vice President Dr. Boediono affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to religious tolerance and cooperation.
